Pure Storage Announces Portworx Enterprise 3.0

Pure Storage has announced an expanded, fully-managed service for Kubernetes storage with Portworx Enterprise 3.0. The full suite of Portworx offerings can be consumed as a fully managed service by customers using Amazon EKS, Red Hat OpenShift, or any other Kubernetes distribution.

Portworx Enterprise 3.0 adds a new PX-Fast capability for low-latency data services. Designed to provide performance close to high-performance NVMe-based infrastructure, PX-Fast is aimed at supporting fast-injection workloads such as Apache Kafka, Elastic or MongoDB, and high-throughput applications such as online transaction processing (OLTP) and machine learning. Pure Storage is claiming PX-Fast makes Kubernetes data storage look like local storage.

The Near-Sync DR feature builds on the existing disaster recovery feature to extend the range of DR. Previously Portworx DR was only suited to clusters within 10ms latency of each other. Near-Sync DR adds support for higher-latency networks, allowing clusters to be located in regions much further apart. Portworx is guaranteeing a 24 second RPO and fast recovery. For enterprises that need wider geographic dispersal of DR clusters, Near-Sync DR is a much desired feature.

Object Storage is also now available, adding to existing file and block storage interfaces. This fills in a significant hole in the Portworx offering, and allows customers to use the one Portworx approach for all the storage interfaces they need.
